Degree Programs at the Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology
The following degree programs are currently offered at the Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology:
The range of courses offered at the institute aims at creating a fundamental and overall expertise in the field of Social and Cultural Anthropology, using case studies to deepen and specialize comprehension. The first stages of the program focus on specific academic categories and important practices of the subject, creating a foundation which allows for the later introduction and analysis of complex and pioneering theories, procedures and fields of research, as well as subject-specific areas of application.
Methods and Areas of Focus
An area of focus lies in the systematic teaching of the core methodic competencies of social and cultural anthropology. This is acheived in 'method courses', obligatory in the Bachelor program, where students participate in praxis-oriented exercises; learning and practicing by completing small projects. As part of the Masters program, it is intended for students to carry out field research projects of a larger size.
Academic Office
The Academic Office (german: Studienbüro) is responsible for all questions regarding academic life at the UHH, as well as the Examination Department and university coordination.
