27.01.2026: Vortrag im Ethnologischen Kolloquium von Yaatsil Guevara González
21. Januar 2026, von Christina Fastner
Yaatsil Guevara González (Universität Heidelberg) zum Thema:
Intimate Captivities: Affective Labor and the Border Regimes of Care
This talk explores the affective and carceral experiences of Central American migrant women engaged in intimate labor—such as caregiving—during their migratory journeys toward Europe. Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork in shelters in Mexico and interviews with live-in caregivers in Spain, I trace how emotional entanglements, bodily discipline, and gendered forms of captivity unfold across various spaces of transit and labor. Bringing together scholarship on affect, forced migration, and feminist anthropology, the talk examines how migrant women’s lives are shaped not only by restrictive border regimes but also by intimate economies of care. It reflects on the paradoxes of autonomy and confinement that structure their experiences, and on how their affective labor sustains not just transnational families but also broader care infrastructures in the Global North.
Wir freuen uns sehr auf die Veranstaltung, zu der wir alle interessierten Personen herzlich einladen.
