With the doctoral project entitled "Transnational emotions. Negotiating love and intimacy among Romanian immigrants in Rome, Italy," I would like to align myself to a series of anthropological works which are trying to shed light on the intimate side of the migration process. I want to explore a side of migration focused less on questions of economics, criminality or national and international politics and more on questions of loneliness and distance, love, sexuality and intimacy, as well as parenthood and couplehood. My aim is to show that in the lives of many migrants, as in those of non-migrants, these aspects are equally important as questions regarding job security, financial compensation or health insurance. Additionally, I want to find out to what degree do these aspects affect the very process of migration or return in the homeland. In completing this Research Project, I will work with respondents belonging to the Romanian immigrant community in Rome, Italy between February 2017 and February 2018.
