17.06.2025: Vortrag im Ethnologischen Kolloquium von Paul Stoller
12. Juni 2025, von Christina Fastner
Paul Stoller (Africana Studies U Penn and Anthropology-WCU) zum Thema:
Harmattan Dust: Clearing the Air to Think about the Anthropological Past, Present, and Future
When the Harmattan whooshes into the West African Sahel, the desert wind brings a fine dust that transforms the sky into a tawny dome, a climatic sign of change in the world. Thoughts of that pervasive dust bring memories of dusty ethnographic practices to the surface. When you clear a space of its dusty residue, what is left? In this presentation, I reflect on the disciplinary dimensions of dusty anthropological practices and how time, experience, love, and loss have shaped and reshaped the anthropological experience. Considering the social and political turbulence of the contemporary world, I discuss how dusty ethnographic lessons from the past and present reveal a path toward a dynamic and ethnographic future in which anthropological insights steer us toward a future destination of well-being, social justice and harmony.
Wir freuen uns sehr auf den Vortrag, zu dem wir alle interessierten Personen herzlich einladen.
