Ich erforsche, wie Menschen mit Konflikten im Kontext pluraler normativer Ordnungen umgehen – also dort, wo unterschiedliche kulturelle, rechtliche oder moralische Vorstellungen aufeinandertreffen und miteinander in Spannung geraten. Ich verbinde ethnographische Forschung mit der Analyse verschiedener normativer Systeme – darunter sowohl das Recht des modernen Staates als auch indigene normative Ordnungen. Mich interessieren die vielfältigen Möglichkeiten, wie Menschen zentrale rechtliche und politische Konzepte – wie Souveränität, Gerechtigkeit, Eigentum, Wert oder Strafe – in unterschiedlichen gesellschaftlichen Kontexten denken, fühlen, verkörpern, umsetzen und anfechten. Das übergeordnete Ziel dieser transkulturellen Perspektive ist es, die politischen Dynamiken unserer globalen Gegenwart – im Spannungsfeld von Kolonialismus, Kapitalismus und moderner Staatlichkeit – zu analysieren und über die Möglichkeiten ihrer Transformation nachzudenken.

Zu meinen Veröffentlichungen gehören The Indigenous Paradox: Rights, Sovereignty, and Culture in the Americas (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2020) und The Sentimental Court: The Affective Life of International Criminal Justice (Cambridge University Press, 2022).
